America needs to be more of a salad. If America wants to be considered a melting pot, then it needs to get its act together. Americans feel that they can hold to their ancestry, but Hispanics are the ones who need to change their ways. They are invaders according to Americans. Americans don't like the idea of other people coming in and bringing their culture with them. Most feel that we need to be the same, but that wouldn't give us an individual identity-that would make us all the same. We hold on to our pasts because we are proud of them. Why should it be any different for Hispanics? They are proud of their heritage. After reading all the articles and the books, we can clearly see the struggles that the Hispanics have gone through. Doing the readings have made us more aware of the issues involving Hispanics and illegal immigration. Before the readings, we only knew of some of the issues. We didn't know everything that was going on apart from illegal immigration. Now, we're all more aware of everything. As college students there is not really a lot that we can do; especially about illegal immigration. What we can do though, is make other people aware of the situations. We need to make people aware of the fact that everyone should be treated fairly. We can pray that our government will make good decisions when it comes to illegal immigration. We need to be accepting of other cultures. Involve yourself with another culture; get to know someone's background. Don't make judgments about something you don't understand. As Christians we need to show God's love to the rest of the world.
